Role Overview

As a Principal ML Engineer in the Models and Applications team, you’ll focus on distributed training of large models on AMD GPUs, with the goal of optimizing performance, scaling, and efficiency. You'll work closely with other AI leaders to shape the direction of AMD’s AI platform.

This role is ideal for someone passionate about LLMs, deep learning efficiency, and large-scale GPU computing.

Key Responsibilities

• Train large-scale generative AI models to convergence using AMD GPUs
• Optimize and improve end-to-end distributed training pipelines
• Implement advanced distributed training algorithms:
  • Data Parallelism
  • Tensor Parallelism
  • Pipeline Parallelism
  • ZeRO (Zero Redundancy Optimizer)
• Scale models efficiently using tools like DeepSpeed
• Contribute to open-source communities and AMD’s AI stack
• Stay current on latest training algorithms and performance research
• Collaborate across teams to influence AMD’s AI direction

Preferred Experience

• 10+ years in Machine Learning / Deep Learning / AI Engineering
• Hands-on with ML frameworks:
  • PyTorch (preferred)
  • JAX or TensorFlow
• Experience with Distributed ML Training (e.g., DeepSpeed, Horovod)
• Familiar with training large language models (LLMs) or large vision models
• Strong Python skills (profiling, debugging, performance tuning)
• Familiarity with ML pipelines and production-level workflows
• Strong problem-solving and cross-functional collaboration skills

Education

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or a related technical field
